On Sunday morning West Mead #1 was dispatched at 6:22 AM as part of a second-alarm to assist Meadville Central with a working fire on Spring Street. Engines 28-12 and 28-13 responded to the three-story wood-frame apartment building. Firefighters fought the stubborn blaze that spread from a second-floor apartment into the third floor, walls, and attic. The fire was finally brought under control at 7:42 AM. West Mead #1 personnel assisted with securing utilities, raising ground ladders, fire suppression, overhaul, and equipment cleanup.
In addition to second-alarm companies West Mead #1 and #2, Vernon Central, and Saegertown, Meadville Central Chief Evan Hasko requested assistance from Vernon Township, Hayfield, Summit, and Conneaut Lake Park.
All 28 units cleared the scene and returned to service by 10:15 AM.

Thanks for recognizing the other dept’s Ryan
Great reporting! City of Meadville needs to be thankful for the surrounding volunteers. Keep up the fantastic work. (Still trying to identify the round metal object behind Chief Johnston on the porch roof–what is it?). I hope City Council somehow rewards the departments.
Thanks for your kind words, Chief Keisel. We appreciate the strong mutual aid relationships in the area. Unfortunately I think City Council is preparing to “reward” the volunteer departments by cutting funding for the paid department. The proposed 2017 city budget cuts minimum staffing to three firefighters on duty. It’s not a change for the better.
Chief Keisel, I spoke with Brad Johnston about that metal object behind him on the porch roof. He said it was aluminum siding that had been pulled from the exterior wall during overhaul.
