Strong teamwork from Vernon Central, Meadville Fire, West Mead #1 and #2, PA Game Commission, PA State Police, and STAT Medevac rescued a hunter after he suffered a cardiac arrest while hunting alone in the woods.
West Mead 1 was initially dispatched to stand by at Meadville Central Fire Department’s station, but the assignment was changed to prepare a landing zone on Krider Road in Vernon Township. A second crew from West Mead 1 stood by at our station on Liberty St. The hunter was rescued from the woods by joint efforts from Meadville Fire, Vernon Central, West Mead #2, PA State Police, and PA Game Commission personnel. An ambulance from Meadville Fire transported the hunter to this location, where STAT-7 took him to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh, for emergency surgery.
The Meadville Tribune featured the rescue story, and emergency responders met Mr. Gary Miller in person on December 15 to accept his thanks for saving his life, as documented by YourErie.
