At 12:56 AM West Mead 1 was dispatched with other volunteer fire companies to assist Meadville Central with a working fire in a two and a half story wood-frame residence. When 28 arrived at the scene, we were assigned to search the second floor and attic space. Initial reports indicated five persons unaccounted for, although that report was later confirmed false. Crews met high heat conditions with little visible fire, although fire spread to first and second floors and the attic. An interior attack was attempted, but crews evacuated the structure approximately one hour into the incident to initiate an exterior attack from the alpha side. The fire was brought under control just after 2:15 AM. Overhaul operations were extensive, and an additional company was requested from Hayfield to provide more manpower.

No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported. The American Red Cross was requested to provide assistance for the occupants.

Other agencies at the scene included Saegertown, Vernon Central, West Mead 2, Meadville Ambulance, Meadville Police, and Meadville Auxiliary Police. An engine from Cochranton stood by at West Mead 1 during the incident.
