On July 16, 2020 8:47pm, West Mead 1 was dispatched as part of a second-alarm assignment to assist Meadville Central Fire Department with a structure fire at Lucy’s Laundry Basket on Bessemer Street in Meadville. Upon arrival, 28 established a secondary supply line to a hydrant, setting up 400 ft of 4″ hose. 28’s crew was assigned to conduct a search for fire extension on the ‘B’ side (laundromat area) of the structure and deployed a 1 3/4″ line as a backup. 28’s crew found smoke conditions with no fire extension into the search area. Positive pressure ventilation was set up while other on-scene crews continued with fire suppression and search for fire extension on the ‘A’ side of the building and roof. Department 28 was back in service shortly after midnight on July 17th.

Other units assisting Meadville Central (16) included West Mead 2 (29), Saegertown (19), Vernon Central (23), and Meadville Ambulance (33).
