In firefighting, a ladder isn’t just a way up — it’s a way out.

One high priority on any working structure fire is placing ground ladders at windows and secondary exit points around the building. A ground ladder thrown to a second-floor window gives a trapped occupant an immediate escape route and gives crews a bailout option if conditions in the building deteriorate quickly. Flashover, a rapidly advancing fire, or a compromised floor can force a firefighter to the window in seconds — and if a ladder isn’t already there, it may be too late to remedy.

Placing ladders early, often, and in the right spots is a key habit on the fireground. It’s the kind of decision that nobody notices when everything goes right — and everyone wishes had been made when things go wrong.

Ticket numbers are randomly generated and emailed instantly.

Names and numbers are posted when all tickets sell; the date of the drawing will also be announced, to be broadcast on Facebook Live.

If sales slow or stop, West Mead 1 may cancel the raffle and refund all sales.

All proceeds benefit West Mead firefighters.

Must be 18+ to purchase.

Winner will be contacted for pickup at a West Mead fire station, either on Liberty Street Extension or Ryan Road in Meadville, or at Tamarack Armory on Franklin Pike. The winner(s) may request that the prize be mailed to his or her location in the continental US at no additional cost.

If prize is not claimed after 30 days, the prize becomes property of West Mead District #1 Vol. Fire Company.
