February 8, 2011

February 8th, 2011 – 3 Alarm Fire City of Meadville

At 3:41 a.m. Tuesday morning West Mead #1 was alerted along with West Mead #2, Saegertown, and Vernon Central Fire Departments to respond to a working fire with entrapment in the 800 block of Market Street.

28-13 Responded and after laying in from a hydrant on Park Ave, set up as an attack engine on the B/C corner of the fire building.  Crews immediately stretched both a 2 ½” blitz line and an 1 ¾” attack line to protect the Charlie side exposure.  Once lines were in place, 13 utilized it’s tank water to supply the previously described lines in addition to the deck gun mounted on top of the engine.  28-12 responded, secured it’s own separate water supply and set up on the C/D corner placing it’s engine mounted master stream into operation.

28-11 responded to the fire ground as a 3rd alarm engine and laid additional 4” supply line to yet another hydrant which in turned few Meadville Central’s tower ladder.  During the height of the incident, West Mead #1 engines were pumping in excess of 2500 gallons per-minute of water and continued this rate for an extended period of time.

West Mead #1 returned to service at 1:25 pm Tuesday nearly 10 hours after the initial dispatch.
